The feeling is quite familiar. Every month, at the beginning, towards the middle and towards the end of the month, you feel like you have no money. No money to buy something you enjoy, like lunch when you are at work, or a coffee or a snack when you are on the way home. No money.
Why?
It seems you are working, and you are saving less. Why is that?
Where did the money go?
If you have been feeling this way for some time, you need to look at your spending. “A diet?” you asked.
“Maybe.” This is a diet for your spending – a budget.
It is very easy to feel like you have money as soon you got paid. Most people make the mistake of going out to lunch and/or dinner “on payday.” It is nice to treat yourself and your friends out, but remember when you are suffering financially, your friends and family are likely not able to help you.
So, what should you do to stop this cycle every month? You are not only “feeling broke” towards the end of the month, but you are also actually “feeling broke” all month, worrying from one paycheck to the next paycheck.
Here are some quick steps to help you in the right direction:
1. Give yourself a reality check and get angry with yourself. Get angry at your current financial situation. This does not mean destroying things around you. This means, have a look at your finances and realize that it is finally time to make permanent changes and tell yourself that you need to commit this time, so you do not ever “feel broke” again.
2. Stop comparing. When you compare yourself to what others have, you will likely get yourself back on the “broke” cycle. It does not matter that you do not have the fancy car right now. You still have a car that works or other means to take you from Point A to Point? When you start comparing yourself to others, you will be undoing all progress.
3. Your negativity is a choice and you also can control and change it. When you negative things to yourself, your mind keep those negative thoughts and it is not always easy to break a bad habit. While on your financial journey, write down the positive things you are doing and good things about your current situation. Do this monthly, quarterly, or yearly. It can help you see the good in what you are doing. When you are doing the right things with your mindset, there is also a positive shift within your finances.
